Three years ago, the average age of Ram and Shyam was 18 years. Now Sohan joins the group and the average of their ages becomes 22 years. Find Sohan’s age.

i)	30

Correct Answer: 4

Description:

3 yrs ago, total age of Ram & Shyam = 18 x 2 = 36 yrs

Total present age of both = 36 + 3 + 3 = 42 yrs

Average age after joining Sohan = 22 yrs

Total age of all 3 = 22 x 3 = 66 yrs

Sohan’s age = 66 – 42 = 24 yrs

The difference between present ages of A & B is 6 years. After 4 years, the ratio between their ages will be 3 : 4. Find B’s present age.

Description:

At present, let A’s age be = x yrs; then, B’s age = (x + 6) yrs

After 4 yrs, A’s age will be = (x + 4) yrs; B’s age will be = (x + 10) yrs

Ratio of ages of A & B after 4 years = (x + 6) : (x + 10) :: 3 : 4

So, (x + 4) / (x + 10) = 3 / 4

A’s age = x = 14; B’s age = x + 6 = 20 yrs

16 years ago, my grandmother was 9 times older than me. 8 years from now, her age will be 3 times my age. What was the ratio of my age to that of my grandmother 8 years ago?

Description:

16 years ago, let my age = (x) yrs; so, my grandmother’s age (16 yrs ago) = (9x) yrs;

After 8 yrs from now, my age = (x + 16 + 8) yrs;

After 8 yrs from now, my grandmother’s age = (9x + 16 + 8) = 3(x + 16 + 8) yrs;

x = 8.

So, 16 years ago, my age x = 8 yrs; Grandmother’s age = 9x = 72 yrs;

Ratio of ages 8 yrs ago = (x+8) : (9x+8) = 16 : 80 = 1 : 5

4 years ago, if the ratio between the ages of A and B was 5 : 6, and sum of their present ages is 52 years; find the ratio of their present ages.

i)	5 : 6
ii)	4 : 5
iii)	6 : 7
iv)	7 : 8

Description:

4 years ago, A’s age = 5x yrs; B’S age = 6x yrs ;

At present, 5x + 4 + 6x + 4 = 52;

X = 4;

Ratio of ages of A & B at present =

(5 x 4 + 4) : (6 x 4 + 4) = 24 : 28 = 6 : 7

The present ages of two women are 36 and 50 years respectively. If after ‘n’ years, the ratio of their ages becomes 3 : 4, then find the value of ‘n’.
